Senior leader of Congress party and MLA from Bajpur  assembly constituency, Yashpal Arya took the charge of the leader of Congress Legislature Party (CLP) and Leader of Opposition (LoP) in the state assembly on Monday. Large number of Congress party leaders and workers were present on the occasion. Interacting with the media persons immediately after taking over the new assignment, Arya said that the Congress party would give its constructive support in smooth functioning of the house but added that the party would not be in a role of friendly opposition. “We will raise the issues of public interest forcefully in the house. The CLP is a wonderful mixture of experience and exuberance of youth. On one hand we have experience of a very senior leader like Pritam Singh and on the other we have many young leaders in the CLP. We would become the voice of unemployed, poor, women and weaker sections of the society in the state assembly,’’ he said.

Arya expressed concern on the lack of business of the house and said that the government should take steps to increase the business of the house so that the members get adequate time and opportunity to raise the issues of public interest. He said that the Lokayukta bill has been pending with the governor for a long time. Arya said that the Congress MLAs would also bring private member bills on the issues of public interests and all the CLP would function as vigilant guards of democracy. He thanked Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and the state in charge Devendra Yadav for showing faith in his ability.
