The State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (SCPCR) is planning to conduct an unannounced inspection at the private school at Purola in Uttarkashi district where a minor girl was allegedly raped by a teacher recently. Stating this, the SCPCR chairperson Geeta Khanna said on Wednesday that a case of alleged rape of a minor girl by a teacher has recently surfaced. “Taking serious note of the incident, the commission summoned the school principal and he was asked to bring with him documents of the school for verification. The principal came and told us that promptly after the incident came to surface, the service of the accused teacher was terminated and he was also arrested by police. We are watching the police actions in this matter,” she said and added that the commission plans to carry out a surprise inspection at the school any day to see for itself how the school is being run.

Khanna further informed that a private school in Vikasnagar had charged fees from students who have not attended a single class. “As we probed, we found that the management of the school had no knowledge of the Right to Education. They were summoned at a meeting we convened to discuss the matter.  We asked the school officials to refund the fees to the parents of such students who, though enrolled, have not even visited the school,” she added.

Furthermore, the commission issued a show cause notice to the block education officer Vikasnagar, Dehradun regarding irregularities found in the documents presented during the surprise inspection and hearing. She asked the education officials to submit a detailed and correct report of the school to the commission soon.
