Plains remain hot & dry, light rains continue in mountains

While the heat wave conditions have passed the weather has remained hot and dry especially in the plains while various parts in the mountainous regions experienced light rain on Thursday. The State meteorological centre has forecast that very light to light rain/thunderstorms are likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar and Pithoragarh districts on Friday while dry weather is likely to prevail in the remaining districts. The meteorological centre has also issued a yellow warning (Watch) regarding the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied with lightning/gusty wind (30-40 kmph) likely to occur at isolated places in the aforementioned districts today.

Provisional State capital Dehradun is forecast to witness a mainly clear to partly cloudy sky today with thunder cloud development likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 37 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius respectively.

The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Thursday were 37.5 degrees Celsius and 26.6 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun, 37.1 degrees Celsius and 27.5 degrees Celsius in Pantnagar, 24 degrees Celsius and 12.9 degrees Celsius in Mukteshwar and 26 degrees Celsius and 17 degrees Celsius in New Tehri. Light rain was reported in some areas with 12.5 millimetres in Mukteshwar, 11 millimetres in Mori, 7.5 millimetres in Kanalichhina, six millimetres in Devidhura and a millimetre each in Lohaghat and Pithoragarh.
