Alternate bridge opened in Madmaheshwar valley

Monday, 21 August 2023 | PNS | PAURI

The Public Works Department (PWD) has built an alternate bridge for local villagers and devotees going to Madmaheshwar. The bridge built with the cooperation of the locals was opened for movement on Sunday.

Rudraprayag district disaster management officer Nandan Singh Rajwar said that the iron girder bridge on the Moorkanda river in Bantolli on the Madmaheshwar route was washed away due to the heavy rains on the morning of August 14.  On the instruction of the district magistrate, the PWD prepared the alternate bridge with the cooperation of local residents to restore movement to and from the Madmaheshwar area.

It will be recalled that earlier 293 persons including pilgrims had been rescued from the Madmaheshwar valley after they got stranded due to the collapse of the iron girder bridge following heavy rains in the region. The alternate bridge has been made to enable the movement of locals and pilgrims in the area.
