In order to tackle potential landslides at various locations on Char Dham routes in the approaching monsoon season, the additional director general of police (Crime, Law and Order) AP Anshuman directed the respective police in-charges to make necessary arrangements in coordination with the departments concerned. He instructed them to assess the landslide areas at vulnerable locations and bottleneck areas and take further action regarding the preparations accordingly. The ADG stated this in a video conference held with the senior police officials of the Garhwal range including IGs, SSPs and SPs. He directed the officials to halt the pilgrims at the identified places in Srinagar, Chamba, Rishikesh, Herbertpur and Haridwar as required. He also instructed them to increase the number of holding areas on routes for better traffic management. In case the police find unregistered devotees on the Char Dham routes, the police should ensure they immediately return from there safely and take necessary action against them if required. He instructed all police in-charges to strictly ensure that the number of pilgrims does not exceed the prescribed capacity of Char Dham routes and temples. He also asked them to update traffic arrangements considering the Buddha Poornima festival on Thursday. He instructed them to regularly analyse the footage of drones and CCTV cameras to strengthen the traffic system and to monitor pilgrims and their vehicles on Char Dham routes. He also directed all district police in-charges to regularly monitor fake news or misleading posts circulated on social media regarding Char Dham Yatra at the district level and take the necessary action as per the SOP issued from the Police Headquarters level. The police must also make suitable arrangements for the green passage for the movement of locals’ vehicles and vehicles carrying essential commodities to minimise inconvenience for locals on Char Dham routes, he added.
