The district food safety officer PC Joshi said that the centre had started a national programme named Clean Street Food Hub that set some benchmarks with the intention of increasing the business of small street food vendors while ensuring safe and hygienic food items are cooked and served to tourists and pilgrims.

To participate in the programme, the commissioner of the Food Safety and Drug Administration (FDA) selected the Char Dham Yatra Station Rishikesh to make them efficient as per the benchmark set by FSSAI. Under this programme, the district food safety department provided training to food vendors and those associated with the food business as per FSSAI guidelines regarding food safety, cleanliness and hygiene among others, said Joshi.

He said that the Municipal Corporation of Rishikesh (MCR), local administration and THDC also helped in providing the training session to local food vendors. He said that FSSAI has given the National Certificate of Clean Street Food Hub to Rishikesh on the basis of the improvement made on the basis of the training given under the programme. He said that it is also Uttarakhand’s first National Clean Street Food Hub certification under the central government’s programme.
