Chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami reviewed the efforts undertaken so far to tackle forest fires while chairing a meeting in the Uttarakhand Forestry Training Academy in Haldwani on Saturday. He reiterated the officials should remain alert all the time to check forest fires. Forest department personnel should not be allowed to go on leave till forest fires are totally brought under control, he stressed. Leaves can be granted only in case of serious illness, he added.

Dhami said that officials should remain in forest fire affected areas and attempt to bring the fires under control. Officials involved in such efforts should not be called unnecessarily to Dehradun to attend official meetings. Along with the Forest department, the other departments should also remain alert to take necessary action to check forest fires, he said. Dhami said, “The assistance of the army is also being taken in efforts to control forest fires. Strict action should be taken against all those found guilty of setting up forest fires. Special focus should be laid on controlling fires near the resin depots and the Fire Service should also remain in an active mode to prevent any damage to the resin depots and other places.”
