About 62 per cent work on the Bajrang Setu, the alternative to the historic Lakshmanjhula bridge, has been completed. Work on the glass footpath on this 132.30 metre long bridge will be started and the bridge will be complete by July 2023.

The State’s Public Works, Irrigation, Tourism and Culture minister Satpal Maharaj said this while conducting a surprise inspection of the Bajrang Setu on Sunday. He directed the Public Works Department (PWD) officials to ensure that the construction of the bridge is completed within the set time frame while stressing on the need to lay focus on the quality of the construction.

Maharaj said that the bridge being constructed at a cost of Rs 69.20 crore was started on January 5 last year and that about 62 per cent of the work has been completed so far. The 92 year old Lakshmanjhula bridge was closed in April 2022 by the authorities for safety reasons. The locals and tourists were facing inconvenience in crossing the Ganga river here due to this. The minister said that the Bajrang Setu is a fine example of engineering and the first such bridge in north India with a glass footpath.
