The Special Task Force (STF) of Meerut and Dehradun police arrested two gang members of the cheating mafia who allegedly facilitated cheating in an online engineering entrance examination held in an examination centre in Dehradun between April 20 and 25. The accused had already taken access to some computer systems in the examination centre through the server room to help some candidates cheat the examination, the Dehradun senior superintendent of police Ajai Singh said. He informed that STF of Meerut  (UP) received confidential information about cheating in online examinations in some examination centres in Dehradun by the cheating mafia. After getting this information, a joint team of Meerut STF and Dehradun police was formed that raided a consultancy office located in Sahastradhara Road where the online entrance examination of Vellore Institute of Technology, a private university in Tamil Nadu, was conducted between April 20 to 25. The police found two men at the spot- Jitesh Kumar and Rahul Kumar. The police also recovered one laptop, three mobile phones, several admit cards and other documents of the candidates of the entrance examination from the possession of the accused. Singh said that both had confessed to helping students cheat in the examination. They said that they got access to the system of the candidates in the examination from the server room and solved the paper online. According to them, they take prior access to some computer systems in different labs through server rooms and the candidates whose papers have to be solved are made to sit on the previously accessed computer systems.  They then access their system through Any Desk software, solve online papers and submit them. During this, they also send screenshots of the online papers to the candidate to assure them about their solved paper. For this, they claimed to charge ranging from Rs one to Rs 1.5 lakh from each candidate to help them cheat and then divide the amount among themselves. They have also claimed to work for two men- Haryana resident Kulveer and Bijnor resident Gaurav Yadav.  The SSP said that the police have registered an FIR against both accused along with Kulveer and Gaurav Yadav in Raipur police station on the complaint of STF. The police are looking for other members of the cheating mafia, he added.
