Medical colleges to get 171 assistant professors soon: Rawat

Uttarakhand Medical Service Selection Board releases list of chosen faculty

Hundred and seventy one assistant professors will soon be posted in the government medical colleges of the State. This development will help resolve the shortage of faculty in the medical colleges on the one hand and on the other hand it will also enable better treatment to the patients reaching the medical colleges. The Medical Education department has received the final list of doctors selected for 24 departments from the Uttarakhand Medical Service Selection Board. The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will soon present the appointment letters to the selected faculty members, said the Medical Health and Medical Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat.

The minister informed that the Medical Education department had sent requirement for appointments to 339 vacant posts of assistant professors in different departments of the medical colleges to the medical services selection board. The board has issued the final list of 171 doctors selected for the posts of the assistant professors. These include eight assistant professors in anatomy and pharmacology, 19 in anesthesia, seven each in biochemistry and ophthalmology, 13 in community medicine, three each in blood bank and dermatology, four each in forensic medicine and respiratory medicine (TB and chest), eight each in general medicine and oto-rhino-laryngology, 10 each in general medicine and obstetric and gynecology, nine in microbiology, 10 in pathology, 11 each in paediatrics and orthopaedics, two in physical medicine and rehabilitation, seven in physiology, three in psychiatry, one in radiodiagnosis and five in radiotherapy. All these selected doctors will be posted in various government medical colleges in the State including those in Srinagar, Dehradun, Almora, Haldwani and Rudrapur. The minister further informed that as part of employment generation programme, the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami will soon present the appointment letters to these selected doctors.
