The Health department has geared up to tackle dengue which is usually witnessed during summer and monsoon seasons. Giving this information, the district malaria officer Subhash Joshi said that every year, the Health department has proactively taken measures to combat the dengue season coinciding with the summer and monsoon. In April, as part of the preparations, the department instructed the municipal corporation to undertake regular fogging throughout Dehradun, focusing on high-risk areas prone to dengue transmission. The department has also tasked Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA) workers with visiting households to raise public awareness about dengue prevention measures and the common symptoms of the disease, he said.

Joshi further added that the department has established six sentinel surveillance hospitals for dengue testing. The six hospitals are located at Coronation, Government Doon Medical College (GDMC), Raipur, Premnagar, Vikasnagar and Rishikesh. Additionally, the department has ensured the availability of special dengue wards in government hospitals with a total of 141 beds, he claimed. Further, the department has directed the 14 blood banks in Dehradun to prepare for the dengue season. Commenting on the symptoms of dengue Joshi said that severe headache, recurring fever and bleeding from the mouth and nose are common indicators. He advised individuals experiencing these symptoms during the upcoming monsoon season to promptly seek medical attention. Joshi stressed the importance of maintaining hygiene in the surrounding areas to prevent dengue, including ensuring there is no stagnant water, particularly in gardens, drains and coolers. Apart from this, individuals make sure to change the water from the cooler every three days in order to save themselves from Dengue. He also emphasised that individuals should not consume during dengue as it will directly affect the platelets.
