Former Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president and Congress candidate from Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency Ganesh Godiyal has said that the desperation of impending defeat is clearly visible in the election speeches of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Interacting with the mediapersons at the headquarters of the State Congress here on Wednesday, the Congress leader said that in his desperation the PM is making absurd statements such as ‘ the Mangalsurtras of the women will be snatched if a Congress government comes to power’. He said that during the 65 years rule of Congress party the prices of gold never crossed Rs 30,000 per Tola (10 grams) but in the last 10 years the gold prices have increased 2.5 times. The gold prices have now become out of reach of the common man. Godiyal said the PM and BJP are now trying to divert the attention of people from real issues and playing divisive politics. He said that alarmed by the voting trends in the first phase of Lok Sabha polls, the BJP has fallen back to its strategy of polarisation of votes. The Congress leader said that the people of Garhwal were expecting that the PM will say something on the Ankita Bhandari murder and Agnipath scheme of recruitment in armed forces but he remained silent on these issues.

He said that the workers of the Congress party had prepared a wonderful pitch for the LS elections on which the candidates of the party in all the five seats played beautifully. He said that in Garhwal where many leaders including Manish Khanduri, the candidate in LS elections of 2019 and incumbent MLA from Badrinath Rajendra Bhandari had left the Congress party, the grass root workers kept the ideology of the party high in the election.
