The Uttarakhand Transport Department is gearing up to recover pending vehicle taxes from thousands of commercial vehicle owners of Dehradun who failed to deposit the taxes since last year. Starting the revenue recovery process from Friday, the regional transport office will commence issuing notices to about 2,000 commercial vehicles owners across the district. Recently, State Transport secretary Ranjit Sinha  had instructed officials during his inspection of the RTO to take action against the owners of vehicles with pending dues and taxes. Following this, the RTO has decided to send the notices to about 2,000 vehicle owners on Friday. According to the officials, there are thousands of people with pending dues who did not make payments since the last financial year citing the severe effect of Covid on business. As informed by the regional transport officer (Enforcement) Sandeep Saini, the RTO has made the list of about 2,000 such owners so far. The names on the list will be provided to the additional regional transport officers (ARTOs) who will issue notices to such people in their respective areas, disclosed Saini. He added that the enforcement teams will take action against such owners as seizing the vehicles who will not clear the dues in the specified time.

Meanwhile, the enforcement also continued its one week campaign against electric rickshaws that started on Wednesday. Saini informed that RTO is taking action against those drivers that run their e-rickshaws on the main roads of the city which is not permitted by the authorities. “Under this campaign, we are regularly asking the e-rickshaw drivers to run their vehicles in the assigned routes as it can be dangerous for the driver, passengers as well as people on the main roads. The enforcement team has fined over 20 e-rickshaws and seized eight e-rickshaws in the last two days across the city,” informed Saini.
