Congress gears up for urban local bodies election

After the end of voting for the Lok Sabha elections in the State, the Uttarakhand Congress has started gearing up for the elections of urban local bodies. On Thursday the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara held a meeting with the senior leaders, ex-councillors and councillor candidates of the Congress party for the upcoming elections of Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD). Addressing the meeting Mahara said that the local bodies are the nurseries of democracy. He said that the threat to democracy under the BJP rule can be tackled by the elections in these bodies. Mahara said that the people have understood the character of ruling BJP in the elections of the Mayor of Chandigarh. He said that the Congress party has remained vocal for the problems of the people of the Dehradun city area. The workers consistently raised issues such as dengue, irregularities in the MCD and Smart  City works. Mahara said that the party should be strengthened in the local bodies which will make the party strong at national and State level.

The candidate of Congress for Tehri LS constituency Jot Singh Gunsola thanked the party workers for the wholehearted support in the elections. He said that the people are angry at the functioning of the government and the Congress party can convert this anger into votes by working with enthusiasm and coordination.

The Mahanagar Congress president Jaswinder Singh Gogi assured the PCC president that the Congress organisation of Dehradun is ready for the municipal elections.

 Former cabinet minister Hira Singh Bisht, Vice president Suryakant Dhasmana, Godavri Thapli,  Navin Joshi, Mahendra Negi and others attended the  meeting.
