The Bharatiya Janata Party has stated that the Congress candidate from Garhwal Lok Sabha constituency, Ganesh Godiyal is casting doubts at the security of electronic voting machine strong rooms to find an excuse for his impending defeat. The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said that the Congress first doubting the EVM technology then the Election Commission of India and now doubting the central security forces shows that the party does not trust constitutional institutions. This is the reason why the people do not trust the Congress, he said.

Interacting with the media at the BJP State office here on Thursday, Chauhan said, “The Congress candidate from Garhwal constituency is well aware that after the notification, the entire election process and important administrative works are under the purview of the Election Commission of India. This system is also in place when it comes to storing the EVMs and securing the strong room they are stored in. The central security forces secure these strong rooms and the ECI monitors this. As per the rules of the model code of conduct, the representatives of all the candidates can remain present outside the strong room. Godiyal is fully aware of this rule applicable across the nation, especially as he has contested an election in the past and also emerged victorious under the same system. However, he is now looking for excuses as he fears a defeat in Garhwal constituency,” Chauhan added.
