Amid spurt in the cases of dengue in the provisional State capital Dehradun, the health secretary R Rajesh Kumar visited the affected areas of the city on Thursday. He also conducted a surprise inspection of the Community Health Centre (CHC) Raipur. Kumar visited Dharampur, Race course, officers colony, Ajabpur and Nehru colony on the day to take stock of the situation. He also participated in source reduction activities with the health workers in these colonies. The health secretary appealed to local people that they should not allow water to accumulate in and around their houses to prevent Aedes mosquitoes from laying eggs.

The secretary found many discrepancies in the functioning of the CHC Raipur during his surprise inspection. He expressed displeasure on the sanitation condition of the wards of the hospital. On his visit he found the only lab of the hospital closed. On a stern note he directed officers to issue notices to the employees responsible for discrepancies in the functioning of CHC. The senior officers of the health department accompanied Kumar.

The health secretary has also written a letter to the district magistrates in which he directed that regular inspections of the government and private hospitals treating dengue patients should be done. He said that action on the hospitals concerned should be taken in case of any laxity in the treatment of patients.
