Police detain three women beggars for disrupting traffic

The Anti-Human Trafficking Unit (AHTU) of Dehradun police detained three women beggars for disrupting traffic near East Canal Road on Monday. The officials informed that the police received information that three women beggars were consistently stopping the vehicles around Crossroads Mall near East Canal Road causing inconvenience to commuters. The traffic was also getting disrupted as the activity of the women also caused traffic jams.

A team of AHTU was sent to the spot and it found three women stopping moving vehicles on the road and asking for money. The officials said that the team detained the three women and registered a case against them at Dalanwala police station under section 09/10 of the Uttar Pradesh Beggary Act 1975. The women belong to Madhya Pradesh and are currently living in a slum near ISBT in Dehradun. They have been identified as Sumaria  (58), Geeta (32) and Indrakali (25), the officials added.
