SRHU research team gets patent for strapless facemask

The Dehradun-based Swami Rama Himalayan University (SRHU) claimed on Monday that the strapless facemask, designed by the research team of the university to prevent passage of infectious elements like virus, bacteria and dust, has received a patent. The university office bearers further said that this unique facemask comprises a fabric structure with two layers, separated from one another, machined into a shape that enables easy symmetrical folding.

As per the SRHU communiqué, the masks found in markets have straps to loop around the ears and these cause irritability or discomfort and pressure at the back of the ears for extended time users besides leaving gaps that allow unfiltered air to enter in or out of the users’ mouths. However, the strapless mask invented by the university’s research team is made of strapless material (polyester) that is light in weight and fits the face closely as it has the capability of being sealed tightly to the wearer’s facial contours. Besides, it is washable, reusable, portable, cost-effective and more convenient for long term usage, the release added.

Commending the research team on the patent earned for its invention-the third one in a few months- the SRHU president Vijay Dhasmana said that it has added another chapter to the institution’s public-spirited endeavours. The vice-chancellor, Rajendra Dobhal said that the research team’s achievement would immensely serve the masses.
