The family members of a man from Uttarkashi who has been stuck in Saudi Arabia for about five years are facing financial difficulties while tackling disappointment as they state that the government has not yet acted to bring him back. His wife and two daughters are facing difficulties as they await necessary action from the authorities to facilitate his return to his home.

Resident of Gorsada village in Dunda Tehsil of Uttarkashi district, Indramani Nautiyal had gone to Saudi Arabia in 2018 to earn a living. His family members state that he got a job driving a truck for the Fidak company in Riyadh. They further said that in the same year he was involved in an accident. The truck he was driving was involved in an accident with a car in which three persons reportedly died. He was sentenced by the court there as the truck was not insured. He was released after serving a 10-month sentence. The family members said that he has been working in the company for nearly four years but it is not allowing him to return to India. They further claimed that the company has taken his passport in its possession due to which he is unable to return to India.

The family members had approached the State government seeking assistance and in February this year, a letter was sent from the office of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to the office of External Affairs minister S Jaishankar seeking measures to bring Nautiyal back to India. However, the family members state that they are still awaiting any concrete action by the authorities. They have appealed to the Government of India to do the needful without further delay to ensure that Nautiyal returns safely to India and his home in Uttarkashi. In his absence, his wife and two daughters are also facing financial woes while suffering the anxiety and disappointment of waiting for him even as the situation remains uncertain.
