Wrestlers from various States compete in Dangal on Parade Ground

Wrestlers from various States participated in a traditional Dangal organised at the Parade Ground by the Akhada Sheran Samiti on Sunday. According to the organisers, wrestlers from Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Haryana, Delhi and Punjab participated in the Dangal. Pehelwans of the Sri Guru Ram Rai Akhada in Dehradun also participated in the bouts. A large number of wrestling enthusiasts gathered on Parade Ground to watch the wrestlers compete.

The final bout saw Rahul from Chandigarh defeating Vishu from Dehradun. The bouts of other wrestlers including Sandeep Negi from Delhi, Sher Ali from Jalalabad, Shiv Kumar, Abhay Kumar from Sri Guru Ram Rai Akhada and Pradeep Laddoo Pehelwan elicited enthusiastic interest from the gathering.

About 40 bouts were held as part of the Dangal here on Sunday.

The committee’s patron Devendra singh Bajaj informed that the Akhada Sheran Samiti has been organising this Dangal for 60 years. The committee head Tilak Raj and general secretary Brijesh Chawla informed that the purpose behind organising this event regularly is to connect the youths and encourage the traditional Indian sport of Kushti. They said that this event is also being organised regularly to attract the youths and keep them away from substance abuse and boost chances of this traditional sport being encouraged further by the government.
