Devasthanam Board repeal- Cong to demand discussion in assembly

Friday, 03 December 2021 | PNS | Dehradun

Even as the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami has announced that his government would repeal the contentious Char Dham Devasthanam Management Board act the Congress party is in no mood to let the government off the hook  on the issue. The party is now planning to demand a discussion on the Act in the upcoming winter session of Uttarakhand assembly.  The strategy of the Congress party is to corner the government on the roll back. The Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Uttarakhand assembly Pritam Singh told media persons here on Thursday that the party would not allow the BJP government to run away from the discussion on the issue. Terming the BJP ruled Union and the Uttarakhand governments as roll back governments; the LoP said that the BJP which was adamant on the Devasthanam board was forced to repeal it due to the opposition it faced. He said that the CM Dhami should answer the people of the state as to why he remained silent as a member of the house when the Devasthanam Board was tabled in the state assembly in 2019. Singh said that the BJP minister signed paeans in support of the Devasthanam board and the three farm laws but they have now been repealed by the state and union governments respectively.

On the question of his recent meeting with the cabinet minister Harak Singh Rawat which generated a lot of speculation on possible defection  of Rawat to Congress party’s fold, Pritam Singh said that Harak Singh is a minister and he ( Pritam) has met him on the issues of his constituency. He categorically stated that no leader of BJP is in touch with him for defection but added that in politics the doors are always open and anyone can come in and go out from them. Cornering the BJP government on its decision of first convening the session in Gairsain and then doing a somersault for holding the session in Dehradun, Singh said that the Congress party would raise the issues of public interest forcefully in the assembly session.
