Cloudburst damages infrastructure & farms in Ghansali area

A cloudburst in the Ghansali area of Tehri district early on Wednesday morning caused considerable damage though no loss of life was reported. At about 7 AM, the cloudburst in the Nelchami Gadera (mountain stream) about 20 kilometres from Ghansali caused a drastic rise in the level of water in the stream.

A considerable area of farmland was covered in debris near Tharti while three small bridges were damaged in the Tharti Bhatwada and an under construction bridge was damaged in the Tharti-Chirbatiya area. The police and district administration officials reached the affected areas on receiving information about the damage.

District magistrate Saurabh Gaharwar visited the disaster affected Tharti area to assess the damage caused. He directed the sub divisional magistrate to make arrangements for accommodations and meals for the families to be shifted. He directed the Public Works Department, electricity and other departments concerned to prepare estimates of all the works to be done and present the same in the meeting to be held on August 27.

Regarding the shifting of some families from Tharti and Thela villages, the DM a geological officer will be sent to the area and based on his report, a proposal will be sent to the State administration. He also directed the SDM to mark land for the rehabilitation. Officials were also directed to ascertain the conditions in disaster relief camp, whether two-month rations had reached the villages and the status of electricity, water and other basic facilities.
