The cyber crime police station of Uttarakhand Special Task Force (STF) has contacted Facebook to obtain necessary information about culprits who hacked the official Facebook page of Uttarakhand police on Sunday, said the deputy superintendent of police of cyber crime police station, STF, Ankush Mishra. The official page of the State police was hacked by cyber criminals for a few hours on Sunday. He said that the cyber crime police have registered a case against the unidentified accused under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Information Technology (IT) Act for hacking the official Facebook page of the State police and then replacing its display picture with an obscene image. The culprits had access to the Facebook page for a few hours and the police reportedly learned about the changed display picture from people’s comments on social media. The changed display picture remained on the official Facebook page for about an hour. Many people also expressed their shock over the incident and claimed it to be a challenge by cyber criminals to the authorities. This was the first time cyber criminals hacked the State police’s official Facebook page.  The DSP said that the cyber crime police have started the investigation and are collecting evidence against the culprits involved in the case.
