The Municipal Corporation of Haridwar (MCH) is all set to launch Uttarakhand’s first pink vending zone in the Rodi Belwala area of Haridwar this month to promote security and employment among women besides providing a dignified platform to women vendors to sell their products.

The corporation has been gearing up to set up pink vending zones in Haridwar as exclusive spaces for women vendors where they can conduct their business in a secure and well equipped environment for about a year. The corporation had already completed the shortlisting process of women vendors months ago. These vendors will be allocated kiosks in the pink vending zones this month. The MCH has shortlisted 100 women following verification of the background of each selected woman to ensure that only eligible vendors get the opportunity to be part of the first pink vending zone of the State. Most of these women are members of various Self Help Groups (SHGs) and street vendors who do not have a space to set up their shops in the city, as per the officials.

The corporation is now preparing for the big launch of the pink vending zone this month. The municipal commissioner of Haridwar, Dayanand Saraswati told The Pioneer that with the launch of pink vending zone this month, MCH would be the first Urban Local Body (ULB) in the State and one of the first few in the country to take this initiative to create a safe space exclusively for small businesswomen and women street vendors. He said that the corporation wants to make this launch big due to which the launching got slightly delayed but it will certainly be launched this month in the presence of dignitaries, possibly in the third week.
