The police have arrested four accused including a 32-year old police constable for stealing pieces of machinery from a factory in the Doiwala area which was locked for years. The constable Swapnil Rishi used to give information about movements of the police to the thieves for a fixed share of the loot.

Informing about the incident during a Press conference, the Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and Dehradun senior superintendent of Police Janmejaya Khanduri said that the police was receiving many complaints of burglaries from a locked scrap factory in Doiwala. He said that the complainant Chandrabhan Singh Pal filed a complaint regarding these burglaries on Thursday after which the police team started checking the footage from nearby CCTV cameras.

Police soon caught three accused from Laltappad in Doiwala. Khanduri informed that the accused revealed during the investigation that they were stealing machinery from the locked factory for about a year and the constable later started helping them to evade the police. “The accused revealed that constable Rishi posted in Laltappad police post had caught them during one of their burglaries but he let them go when they offered him a share of their loot. Since then he stayed in touch with them and informed them about every movement of the police. They used to give him Rs 10,000 to Rs 15,000 on every burglary,” informed Khanduri. He added, “The constable is under arrest and I have suspended him too. I want to make it clear that no one, including police personnel, is above the law.

Everyone involved in a crime will have to face consequences and action will be taken against them as per the law.” Khanduri said that two accused are still at large and police are searching them.
