In latest news from Uttarakhand, with the Silkyara evacuation stalemate continuing for a fortnight sans any breakthrough, the principal secretary of the Prime Minister P K Mishra and the Ministry of Home Affairs secretary, Ajay Bhalla arrived at the site to take stock of the ongoing rescue operation. Mishra spoke to the trapped workers through the audio communication setup installed by BSNL and SDRF. He urged them to take care of their health and asked them about the supply of food, water and electricity inside the tunnel. Aside from the officers involved in the rescue effort, he also talked to the engineers and the workers. Mishra said that while all-out efforts are being made to keep the trapped workers fine inside the tunnel and to evacuate them, safety should be ensured for those engaged in the rescue operation. He was updated on the food items being sent to the stranded workers and he stressed on maintaining their quality. While appreciating the multi-pronged and multi-agency rescue operation, he sounded hopeful that all the stranded workers would be pulled out soon. He also assured the kin of the workers, saying that the government is standing by them in this period of crisis.
