Players to get Rs 1 lakh for breaking national record: Arya

The Sports minister Rekha Arya said that the player who manages to break national sports records at the State level during the Khel Mahakumbh will receive a prize money of Rs one lakh. She said this while inaugurating the Khel Mahakumbh 2023 along with the governor lieutenant general (retd) Gurmit Singh at the Indira Gandhi International Stadium in Haldwani on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion Arya said that the prize money for the winners of Khel Mahakumbh has been increased this year. Players who break national sports records will be awarded a prize of one lakh. The purpose of organising Khel Mahakumbh is to provide a platform for talent from the Nyay Panchayat, development block, district and State levels. The Sports department is working to ensure that children have ongoing opportunities. Efforts are being made to provide children of different age groups with a platform to participate in sports according to their talents, she said. 

 She further said the  State government is also undertaking efforts to establish a four per cent horizontal reservation for players, which would benefit the players in government jobs. She further emphasised that people of all age groups should devote one hour a day to sports to maintain fitness and keep their bodies healthy.

Speaking on the occasion, the governor said that the youth of India are emerging as a major power across the world. He exhorted the youth to dream big and work towards transforming their lives by striving with commitment towards their vision. He further said that the contribution made by Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel for building India can never be forgotten.
