The Bharatiya Janata Party has said that with the involvement of a Congress leader in the recent Haldwani riot becoming known, it is now clear why senior Congress leaders were not criticising the rioters.Congress leaders should publicly apologise and check the situation in their party where they may have gathered those against Uttarakhand just for their vote bank politics. The BJP State media in-charge Manveer Singh Chauhan said this referring to the former Youth Congress head of Haldwani Assembly constituency Maukin Saifi being named as one of the accused in the riot.

Terming the Haldwani violence as unfortunate, Chauhan said that Saifi’s name being included in one of the main accused in the riot is a cause for concern. Senior party leaders should come forward and apologise for the actions of their party’s youth leader. They should hold a discussion and check the internal status of the Congress to see whether they have gathered anti-social persons against the interests of Uttarakhand in the party just to perpetuate their vote bank politics. “The Congress is now stating that it had expelled Saifi in the past but this is not convincing anyone. They should have made it public if they had expelled him. The BJP has been talking since the start about maintaining the peace and taking strict action against the culprits. The government swiftly restored order and peace in the area and also arrested some of the accused. It is surprising that the Congress blames the administration for the riot and seeks a probe by a sitting High Court judge but did not utter a word criticising those who carried out the violence and attacked police, government officials and the media persons,” the BJP State media in-charge said.
