The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) sanitised various wards of the city during its weekend sanitation drive to minimise the risk of the spread of Covid-19 virus in the city. Though the officials had planned to sanitise all the 100 wards of the city on the weekend, some wards could not be sanitised due to the lack of resources with the corporation. The corporation started the sanitisation process at 8 AM on Saturday and Sunday.

As informed by the municipal commissioner, Vinay Shankar Pandey, the MCD sanitised public places on this weekend drive like commercial establishments, main government buildings, hospitals and public places where the crowd generally gathers during the weekdays. On Saturday, the corporation sanitised 38 wards using about 2.90 lakh litres of one per cent sodium hypochlorite solution with the help of 43 tanks and tractors. On Sunday, the corporation sanitised about 50 wards using 3.10 lakh litres of disinfectant solution with the help of 48 tanks, as informed by Pandey.

Since all the wards could not be sanitised on Sunday too, the officials stated that the remaining wards will be sanitised on Monday. Meanwhile, Dehradun mayor, Sunil Uniyal ‘Gama‘ stated that the municipal corporation is regularly sanitising the hospitals, health care facilities and containment zones besides sanitising the city on weekends. He appealed to people to not panic but remain cautious during the current critical times and follow the Covid-19 norms.
