The aspirants of the assistant professor recruitment of Uttarakhand Public Service Commission have expressed resentment at the inordinate delay in the recruitment process for the 455 posts of assistant professors in the government colleges of the State. These aspirants have alleged that a pressure group is deliberately trying to derail the recruitment process which is about to get completed.
In a letter written to the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the shortlisted candidates for the interviews on the posts of assistant professors have contended that the PSC had released a recruitment advertisement for recruitment in 455 posts in the government colleges of the state on December 4, 2021. On April 13 this year, the Commission released a list of 1,540 candidates out of 20,449 applicants for interviews. The selection was made on the basis of the Academic Performance Index (API). The commission decided to hold the interviews on the posts of assistant professor of Anthropology, Psychology, and Philosophy from August 17 this year but it later canceled the interviews in wake of the decision of the High Court on the writ petition filed by Manish Chauhan and others on July 27, 2022. However, on the review petition filed by the Uttarakhand Public Service Commission, the HC on August 31 amended its earlier order and asked the commission to go ahead with the recruitment process. The aspirants in their letter to the CM, copies of which are also sent to Education minister Dhan Singh Rawat and the chairman of the Public Service Commission, claim that a campaign has been undertaken in the media and other forums by a pressure group by which an attempt is being made to stall the recruitment process citing irregularities in the Uttarakhand Subordinate Service Selection Commission (UKSSSC) examination. They point out that the Commission has shortlisted candidates on the basis of the API which is as per the guidelines of the University Grants Commission (UGC). The aspirants said that 85 percent of posts in the above-mentioned recruitment drive are reserved for women and reserved category candidates of Uttarakhand.
