Authorities nab man from Pauri for duping seven foreigners during pandemic

The cyber police and Special Task Force (STF) of Uttarakhand nabbed a man in Srinagar for allegedly duping seven people from Europe and Central America during Covid-19 pandemic period by posing as a travel agent from Rishikesh. The Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Cyber Crime of STF, Ankush Mishra informed that the cyber police received an email from these seven victims who mentioned that they connected to a man through internet who posed as a travel agent and for a total of Rs 7,32,527 assured to book their tickets and provide other facilities. They paid the amount but he duped them, as per the complainants. Mishra informed that the cyber police started the investigation and finally nabbed the culprit Anurag Uniyal, a resident of Pauri district on Sunday. He said that the complainants have sent a thank you email to the police after they were informed about these developments in this case. The DSP informed that the Spanish police have also thanked the police here for catching the culprit.

The DSP appealed to the people to take the help of police or dial 1930 in case of any cyber fraud rather than taking steps on their own.

The police presented the accused in court from where he was sent to judicial custody. The police informed that the Srinagar police registered a case against 33-year old Uniyal under section 420 of Indian Penal Code on the report lodged by cyber crime police station Dehradun sub inspector Rajesh Dhyani. The investigation by sub inspector Manoj Rawat ascertained the allegations to be true. Uniyal had set up Rishikesh Vibes tour agency and had defrauded the foreigners of Rs 7.32 lakh. The accused was arrested in Srinagar on a tip off received by the police.
