760 vehicles penalised in fortnight-long drive

In a fortnight long drive, the police penalised 760 vehicles across the State for transporting goods loaded in a dangerous manner.The director general of police Ashok Kumar had ordered the drive on the directions of chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami to improve the traffic system and put a check on road accidents. During the fortnight-long drive from June 1 to 15 challans were issued to drivers of 760 vehicles while 32 vehicles were seized by the police. According to information provided by the police, during this drive 13 vehicle drivers were penalised and two vehicles were seized in Uttarkashi district, 13 were penalised and three were seized in Tehri, 142 were penalised and seven were seized in Pauri, 21 were penalised and one was seized in Rudraprayag, 71 were penalised and two were seized in Dehradun, 193 were penalised and eight were seized in Haridwar, 80 were penalised and six were seized in Nainital, 137 were penalised and three were seized in Udham Singh Nagar, 20 were penalised in Almora, 69 were penalised in Champawat and one was penalised in Pithoragarh. Traffic director Mukhtar Mohsin said that vehicles loaded overheight/overlength pose a considerable danger as such vehicles substantially increase the risk of accident. The fortnight-long drive was conducted to check such dangerous violations and similar campaigns will be undertaken in the future too, he added.
