A 72-year-old man Ram Singh Thakur allegedly killed his 53-year-old wife Usha Devi with a bat over property dispute in Dehradun. The accused, who is also suffering from cancer, had allegedly killed his wife on Monday night over some property dispute and later took her to Deen Dayal Upadhyaya hospital by 108 ambulance.
According to the police, the authorities were informed of a dead body arriving in the hospital on Monday night and they suspected that the woman had died under suspicious circumstances. The police questioned the accused about the death of his wife but he did not reveal much during the preliminary inquiry. Subsequently, the police gathered information about the accused and his dead wife from the neighbours and then interrogated the accused strictly again resulting in him reportedly confessing to killing his wife. According to him, he got married to his wife Usha three years ago in 2019 and they have been fighting on property issues for quite some time, as per the police. They had a fight on the same issues on Monday night too when the accused killed his wife by repeatedly hitting on her head with a bat when they were about to go to sleep, stated the police. Subsequently, he hid the bat on the roof before calling the ambulance and took the body to the hospital, said the police.
The police also informed that the first wife of the accused had died many years ago and his two sons also died in 2015 and 2016 due to health issues after which he married his second wife in 2019. The officials said that Dalanwala councillor Nikhil Kumar has given an application regarding the murder in the police station considering which, the police filed a case and arrested the accused on Tuesday.
