A man in Haridwar killed his friend for proposing to his girlfriend on ‘Propose Day’ which is observed on February 8. He killed his friend with the help of his accomplice who was arrested on Monday within 12 hours of committing the murder. The main accused is still at large, the Haridwar senior superintendent of police Pramendra Dobhal said. He informed that the police received information about a young man being stabbed late on Sunday in the Piran Kaliyar area after which he was admitted to a private hospital. The police reached the hospital where the doctors referred the victim to the civil hospital in Roorkee considering his serious condition. He was taken to the hospital where the doctors declared him dead.
The deceased’s mother registered an FIR against unknown accused. The SSP formed teams to start the investigation to nab the accused. The police team on Monday received a tip-off that one of the accused Murad Ali was trying to escape from the district. He was soon arrested from near Imaam Sahab Road. The police also recovered the knife used to stab the victim.
The SSP said that it was revealed during interrogation that the victim had allegedly proposed to the girlfriend of the absconding accused on ‘Propose Day’ on February 8 which became the cause of a rift among them on Sunday evening. Their fight escalated and Ali along with the main accused started beating the victim and then stabbed him to death. They both fled from the spot to hide from the authorities. Dobhal said that the police are looking for the absconding accused. Calling the whole incident unfortunate, the SSP also appealed to the youngsters to think and understand how their reaction to small matters can have life-ruining repercussions on themselves and others.
