Investigation started after girl’s body found in a sack in Bahadrabad

The Udham Singh Nagar police have handed over the body parts of two victims which were found near the Boar river in the Kelakhera area of the district on June 7, to their families. Meanwhile, the police in Haridwar found a body in a sack in the Bahadrabad area on Saturday.

The body parts in Udham Singh Nagar included two legs and a severed foot which allegedly belong to a woman and a man respectively. Though the police are yet to receive the DNA reports, the families of the victims had reportedly identified their body parts from clothing and other things found near the spot. Considering this, the police handed over the body parts to the families after carrying out necessary procedures, said a police officer involved in the investigation of the case.

The police were earlier refraining from making any comments even about the gender of the victims whose body parts were found stating they will be able to say anything about the victims only after getting DNA reports. However, now the police have handed over the body parts to those believed to be the family members of the victims. The officer said that the female victim has been identified as Gurmeet and the male victim as Jogendra by their respective families. He said that the body parts belong to two different bodies and points towards a double murder in the area. He said that both victims were missing for quite some time and the police suspect some connection between their deaths but it would be too soon to say anything in the matter.

The police are also reportedly yet to find the remaining body parts despite using a dog squad and divers to search the river and the nearby area. They suspect that other parts might have been thrown in other locations of the district or are still hidden. The official said that there is not much progress in the case and the police are waiting for DNA test reports and other relevant reports to gather more information about how the victims were killed to take the investigation forward. He said that samples have been sent to a lab in Dehradun and it will take a few more days to get the DNA test report.

Besides this, Haridwar police also found the body of a female in a sack in the Bahadrabad area of the district on Saturday. The Bahadrabad police station in-charge told The Pioneer that it appears in the preliminary investigation that the body was brought from somewhere else and thrown there. He said that the police have sent the body for a postmortem report and have started the investigation.
