The Transport department will start a verification drive of the school vans and buses along with their drivers in Dehradun to ensure the safe commuting of students. The drive will be commenced on Tuesday at Parade Ground, said the regional transport officer (enforcement) Shailesh Tiwari. He said that the verification will be done considering the guidelines of the Supreme Court, CBSE, Motor Vehicles Act and other associated rules during the drive. Besides this, valid documents of vehicles and drivers will also be checked during the drive. He said that the regional transport office will also keep a record of the important details and documents of school bus and van drivers like Aadhaar cards and driving licenses, among others. He said that the drivers will also be provided counseling to make them more sensitive towards school students regarding their safety. They will also be made aware of traffic rules that must be followed to ensure the safe operation of vehicles carrying school students. Tiwari said that the department had also sought the cooperation of the drivers and participation in the drive from Tuesday. “We want the maximum number of drivers who operate vehicles carrying students to participate in the drive. After completion of the drive, the department will resume its drive against those operators who violate the rules,” added Tiwari.
