Kejriwal’s visit to Doon postponed, likely to arrive this week

The Dehradun visit of Aam Aadmi Party’s national convener and Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal which was scheduled for today has been postponed. According to the party members, the visit has been postponed due to some unforeseen circumstances but Kejriwal will visit Dehradun by the end of this week. However, when the state in charge of the party, Dinesh Mohaniya was asked about Kejriwal’s visit, he said the party’s head will visit Dehradun soon but the day and time is yet to be confirmed.

This will be the second visit of the AAP chief to the State within two months. It is being speculated that after Delhi deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia’s recent visit to Roorkee where he questioned people of Uttarakhand whether a CM should be a corrupt leader or a patriot like colonel (retd) Ajay Kothiyal, Kejriwal may officially announce the latter as the party’s chief ministerial candidate in the State.

During his last visit in July, Kejriwal made four announcements related to electricity which he termed as guarantees and promised to fulfil them if the party is voted to office in Uttarakhand next year. In his announcements, he guaranteed to provide free electricity up to 300 units and no electricity bills to farmers of Uttarakhand. Besides this, he guaranteed waiving off old electricity bills too. He also assured working towards providing 24 hours electricity which, as he mentioned, will take three to four years to change the electricity system across the State. He had said his party is not just making blind promises to lure voters, everything is being announced on the basis of plans. Kejriwal has also asserted in his last visit that he will visit Uttarakhand every month to make such announcements in other major spheres too like education, health, unemployment among others with a well sorted plan rather than making random and tall claims like other parties.

For the last two years, AAP has been making consistent efforts to emerge as the third prominent player in state politics. Senior leaders of AAP like Kejriwal and Sisodia have consistently targeted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Congress for successively running corrupt governments and ruining Uttarakhand for the last 20 years. They have claimed only AAP can reform Uttarakhand and the party is already working on preparing concrete plans.
