Saturday, 28 August 2021 | PNS | New Tehri

Routine life has been hit by incessant heavy rains in the mountainous parts of Garhwal region. In Tehri, the national highways to Gangotri and Badrinath along with the Chamba-Maldevta road were closed due to damage and debris on Friday. A portion of the all weather road was also washed away.

The connectivity of Tehri district to Dehradun was cut off due to the damage to the road.  District magistrate Eva Ashish Srivastava directed a complete ban on traffic on Badrinath highway due to falling of boulders and debris. Traffic on Gangotri highway will also remain closed, said the Tehri DM. The commuters faced considerable difficulties as they had to take alternate route from Mussoorie to reach Dehradun. Srivastava reached the disaster control room in the morning and took stock of the blocked motorways under the district.

Fifteen link roads are closed in the district. Meanwhile, part of all-weather road near Fakot on the Gangotri highway was washed away, bringing traffic to a complete standstill. The highway will now remain closed for a few days.
