CM reviews situation in State considering heavy rain alert

The State meteorological centre has issued an alert regarding the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall likely to occur at isolated places in Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, Nainital and Pithoragarh districts on Thursday. Meanwhile, in view of the alert, chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami visited the disaster control room and reviewed the situation in the State on Wednesday.

Apart from the possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall in five districts, light to moderate rainfall/thunderstorms are likely to occur at most places with intense showers at isolated places in the districts today. Dehradun is forecast to experience partly to generally cloudy sky. Light to moderate rainfall/thunderstorms with intense showers are likely to occur in some areas. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be about 31 degrees Celsius and 23 degrees Celsius respectively in Dehradun today. Meanwhile, rainfall was experienced in most parts of the State on Wednesday. A few spells of rain in Dehradun resulted in water overflowing on various city roads, affecting traffic and causing public inconvenience.

Reviewing the situation in the State at the disaster control room, chief minister Dhami stressed on the need to remain constantly alert. He said that disaster related preparations should be regularly checked and any gap found should be immediately rectified. He stressed that no official should keep the mobile phone switched off, adding that strict action will be taken against any official found negligent on duty. Dhami said that district magistrates should decide on holidays in schools according to the situation in their respective districts. He directed that the supply of foodgrains, medicines, fuel and other essential commodities should be checked once again. Constant coordination should be maintained with mobile service provider companies to prevent any issues in the communication network, he said. 

Dhami said that a system should be made to ensure that information relayed from the State headquarters reaches every village without delay. All departmental secretaries and heads of departments should regularly monitor their respective departments from the viewpoint of disaster management. He further said that buildings marked to accommodate affected people in case of disaster should be checked once again for safety. New and young officers should be put on duty, added Dhami.
