189 new cases, two deaths reported on Wednesday
The latest surge in the pandemic of Covid-19 in Uttarakhand is continuing to intensify and becoming fatal. On Wednesday, the State Health department reported 189 new cases of the disease with the death of two patients of the disease. What is causing grave concern among the health experts is the fact that the positivity rate surged past 10 per cent on Wednesday. In Dehradun district things are graver with the positivity rate skyrocketing to 15.6 per cent. Death of two patients of the disease was reported from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Rishikesh on the day.
The authorities also declared 100 patients cured from the disease on the day. The department has so far detected 95,164 new cases of the disease from January 1 this year till date. A total of 90,752 patients have recovered from the disease so far in this year. The recovery percentage of the disease was at 95.36 per cent on Wednesday. A total of 286 patients have lost their lives to the disease this year in the state.
The health department reported 113 new patients from Dehradun, 40 from Nainital, 16 from Haridwar, eight from Almora, five from Udham Singh Nagar, three each from Pauri and Uttarkashi and one from Chamoli on Wednesday. No new cases were reported from Bageshwar, Champawat, Pithoragarh, Rudraprayag and Tehri districts on the day.
The number of active patients of Covid-19 was at 750 on Thursday. Dehradun with 540 cases is at the top of the table of active cases while Nainital and Haridwar have 75 and 66 active cases of the disease respectively. Champawat is the only district in the state that has no active case of the disease now. In the ongoing vaccination drive 29,622 people were vaccinated in 899 sessions in the state held on Wednesday.
Expressing concern over the latest spurt in pandemic, the founder of Social Development for communities (SDC) foundation Anoop Nautiyal said that 15.6 per cent positivity rate in Dehradun is alarming. He said that it is time to increase testing and get the masks back in use.
