MCD steps up drive to remove illegal banners & posters

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun (MCD) stepped up its drive for removing posters, hoardings and banners from public places in the city.

According to the municipal tax superintendent, Vinay Pratap Singh, the corporation staff visited the major public areas like Rajpur Road and Clock Tower on Monday and removed posters and hoardings displayed illegally on public and private properties. He said that the MCD had already started the removal of such displays from public places last week but more teams started working on the drive from Monday.

According to officials, the municipal corporation is also raising awareness regarding such illegal public displays among locals informing them that such displays are punishable under the Prevention of Defacement of Public Property Act, (PDPP), 2003. Singh also informed that the MCD has recently sent a notice to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) as the public display of their political posters and hoardings has increased in the last few weeks. “We are working on removing all kinds of illegal public displays but the corporation will take action against the offenders who paste or install new posters or hoardings in public places without the permission of the corporation,” said Singh.

According to the officials, even those individuals or parties who take permission from the corporation for such public displays will have to remove such posters and hoardings within 12 hours after the completion of their event.
