Police arrest accountant for pension embezzlement

The Srinagar Police arrested accused Subash Chandra who is an accountant at the Srinagar sub treasury. He had allegedly diverted the pension of dead pensioners fraudulently to his own and relatives’ accounts. The arrested accused was produced in the court and the court sent him to judicial custody.                                             

It is pertinent to mention here that the Srinagar police had registered a case against Subash Chandra and assistant account, late Hari Darshan Bisht under sections 409, 420 and 477A of IPC on the basis of complaint lodged by the Srinagar assistant treasury officer Nandan Singh Khatri on January 10. The report stated that the Subash Chandra had fraudulently and illegally embezzled pension of a number of beneficiaries. On investigation, the police found that Chandra had embezzled Rs 17,34,424 pension amount of different dead pensioners. The accused accountant is reported to have committed this fraud from January 2016 to November 2020 and deposited the pension of different pensioners to his own and his relatives’ accounts. The second accused, Hari Darshan Bisht had died earlier.
