State government to introduce employment scheme for single women

The chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said that the State government will introduce Mukhyamantri Ekal Mahila Swarozgar Yojana for single women of the State. He said this on the last day of Women Empowerment and Safety Week organised by the Women Empowerment and Child Development (WECD) department at the CM residence on Monday.

The theme of the concluding event of the programme was single women and their journey from struggle to empowerment. Dhami announced on the occasion that the government will soon introduce an employment scheme, especially for single women including widows, divorced and single mothers among others to empower them. He said that the Central and State governments have been making consistent efforts to empower women economically, socially and politically.  He said that the State government has acted expeditiously to give the full benefit of 30 per cent reservation to the women of the State in government jobs. “We aim to make Uttarakhand one of the leading states of the country by 2025 and we need the support of women to achieve this goal,” stated Dhami.  He said that women across the State are working hard and becoming financially independent and self-sufficient while keeping the culture of the State alive in today’s world.

The CM also honoured some single women at the event. Besides this, he also issued Rs 1.89 crore to 6,286 beneficiaries of the Mukhyamantri Vatsalya Yojana. The WECD minister Rekha Arya also stated that single women deserve appreciation for the strength with which they are raising their families. She said that the department has been taking several initiatives for the overall welfare of women and children to ensure they lead happy and healthy life. She said that the government will also take initiative to improve the lives of single women like the recent increase in the pension for widows in the State.
