The State’s traditional festival of Igas was celebrated with enthusiasm across Uttarakhand on Friday. At the chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s residence here, the chief minister along with other leaders and citizens celebrated the festival in a traditional manner with folk music and other aspects of the State’s traditional culture. Dhami first participated in the Bhelo worship and also played with Bhelo- a clump of pine bark or wood tied to a string, set on fire and then moved around in patterns. The chief minister and others also participated in folk dance on the occasion.

Greeting all on the occasion of Igas, the chief minister appealed to all to take part in the efforts to preserve and take forward the State’s folk culture and traditions. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the cultural heritage of the nation and its grandeur is being revived across India. Similarly, the folk festival of Igas is also being celebrated with great enthusiasm in the State, he said. Dhami recalled that during his speech from the Red Fort, PM Modi had exhorted all citizens to work especially on five aspects with resolve. One of these aspects is to take pride in one’s heritage and culture. The Igas celebrations will also help connect the younger generation with their cultural roots and strengthen their connection. Later, the CM also participated in the Igas celebrations on Parade Ground.
