MCD begins India Swachchhta League activities

Special sanitation campaign, rally & run to be held in city

The Municipal Corporation of Dehradun has started organising various activities as part of the India Swachchhta League on Friday. The ‘flash mob’ was organised on Friday while a run will be organised in the city on September 18. The Dehradun municipal commissioner Manuj Goyal directed the municipal officials to ensure that various activities to be held during the India Swachchhta League from September 15 to 17 are organised successfully.

As part of the activity on Friday, street plays were staged in the Holy World School where the children were made aware about the impact of saniation, clean air and the ill-effects of dirt and polluted air on human health and the environment. The children were also informed about the preventive measures to be taken against dengue. Officials informed that ‘flash mobs’ were staged at the railway station, ISBT and two malls to raise awareness on sanitation and clean air through dance items. Students of various higher education institutions participated in the ‘flash mobs’.

The MCD officials further informed that a special sanitation campaign will be undertaken in various places on Saturday. About 400 volunteers of 10 non-governmental organisations will participate in this activity. This special sanitation drive will be conducted at the railway station, on the stretch from Shastrinagar to Ring Road, Old Mussoorie Road, Turner Road, Rispana bridge, Bangali Kothi, Mothorwala, Harrawala, Doon University and other locations in the city. During the special sanitation campaign, the MCD will focus on achieving the first position in the India Swachchhta League at the national level, officials said.

The MCD will also organise a rally to make the public aware of the importance of saniation and clean air. Scouts and guides along with senior citizens and students of various schools and colleges will also participate in this rally. This rally will be held by different teams in various parts of the city. On September 17, the MCD will organise a ‘marathon’ at 6 AM. This run will begin at the Parade Ground and pass through Brahmakamal Chowk and Canal Road before turning back to conclude at the Parade Ground. Participants in this event will include people in various age groups ranging from school children to senior citizens. Various distances have been set for different age groups. A total of Rs two lakh cash award will be presented to the winners in different categories. Goyal has appealed all the people of Dehradun to participate in all the activities being organised by the MCD as part of the Swachchhta Pakhwada.
