U’khand Congress pays glowing tributes to Rajiv Gandhi

Terming former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi as the architect of modern India and the facilitator of the computer revolution in the country, the Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has said that Rajiv Gandhi’s name would always be written in golden letters in the history of India.

Paying his tributes to the late PM on his death anniversary, Mahara said that he brought women in the mainstream of politics by providing 33 per cent reservation to them in the Panchayati Raj bodies. Paying homage to Rajiv Gandhi, the PCC president said he used to repeatedly say that people of all religions should come forward for maintaining the unity and integrity of the country. He said that Rajiv Gandhi donned the chair of the PM of the country at a young age of only 40 years and he was a symbol of friendship, progressiveness and kindness. “His clarity and modern ideas earned him the sobriquet of Mister Clean.   It was Rajiv Gandhi who reduced the voting age to 18 years to provide participation of youth in politics. He made radical changes in the education system by bringing a new education policy. He firmly believed that the farmer loses his self reliance when becomes weak and by empowering farmers the country gets empowered,’’ Mahara said.

The PCC chief added that Rajiv Gandhi in his tenure as PM of the country made the country strong in the international scenario. He exhorted the leaders and workers of Congress party to walk on the path shown by the late PM and strengthen the Congress.

Many Congress party leaders and workers offered floral tributes to the late PM at the headquarters of the party in Dehradun. The Vice president of state Congress Rajendra  Bhandari, Mahanagar president Lal Chand Sharma, media in charge Garhwal Garima Dasauni, state spokesperson R P Raturi and others were present on the occasion.
