The Uttarakhand Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) president Karan Mahara has accused the State government of harassing the unemployed youth of the State. He criticised the government’s decision to terminate the services of those outsourced to work in various hospitals and to book them for obstructing government work.A Congress delegation headed by its State general secretary (Organisation) Vijay Saraswat met the director general of police Ashok Kumar and submitted a memorandum regarding the cases lodged against protesting outsourced medical workers.

In a statement, the PCC president said that following a drop in Covid cases, the State government had terminated the services of the outsourced medical workers who had faced health risks while working in various hospitals across the State during the pandemic. “This decision of the government is akin to cheating and harassing the unemployed youth of the State. On the one hand the government talks of reinstating the outsourced workers terminated from work and on the other hand it lodges cases against the unemployed youth protesting in support of their valid demand. During the Vidhan Sabha elections, the BJP government had made big promises about providing jobs to the youth but now it is lodging cases against the unemployed youth who were rallying to the CM residence. The BJP is adopting a dual policy for the unemployed. On the one hand it is providing jobs in cooperative institutions through the backdoor to its favoured persons while the common unemployed youth are facing cases for raising their valid demands,” said Mahara.

Meanwhile, in the memorandum submitted to the DGP, the Congress has stated that the State government is playing with the future of 2,200 outsourced workers who had served in various hospitals during the Covid pandemic by terminating their services. Further, when they were undertaking a protest march, the police manhandled them and booked them under serious sections, which is a sign of the government’s dictatorial attitude. The Congress delegation demanded the 2,200 outsourced workers should be reinstated on their jobs and action should be taken against the police personnel who indulged in violence with them. Congress State spokespersons Garima Dasauni, Sujata Paul, Amarjeet Singh and other party members were part of the delegation.
