BJP starts process of candidate selection for RS seat

The Union government has selected Haridwar & US Nagar districts in its aspirational districts programme- Kaushik

The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has started deliberations for the selection of its candidate for the Rajya Sabha seat from the state. One seat of Rajya Sabha from the state is falling vacant in July after the end of term of Congress MP Pradeep Tamta. The state unit of the party would send a panel consisting of six names to the central leadership of the party for Rajya Sabha seat. The final decision in this regard would be taken by the central leadership. The president of Uttarakhand BJP Madan Kaushik told the media persons here on Thursday that the state unit is deliberating on the panel of candidates for the Rajya Sabha seat from the last two days.  

He said that the union government has selected Haridwar and Udham Singh Nagar districts in its aspirational districts programme. These are the districts which are lagging behind in the various parameters of NITI Aayog and the government’s effort for all round development of these districts has started taking a shape now. As per the programme, Union minister Pankaj Chaudhary has already visited Udham Singh Nagar district while the Union minister Piyush Goyal has arrived in Haridwar for a three day visit of the district in this regard. Kaushik said that the BJP government is committed to the development of these aspirational districts of the country. He added that the Union minister Goyal would hold interactions with different sections of the society and the prominent personalities of Haridwar during his visit. He will also interact with the party workers and seek their suggestions on the development of Haridwar district. Kaushik said that efforts for development of aspirational districts are being made during the ‘social justice fortnight’. He claimed that back to back visits of two union ministers in the aspirational districts bears testimony of the union government’s commitment for all round development of Uttarakhand. He said that the government wants that the health infrastructure and facilities are augmented and every facility is provided for the women. Kauhsik added that the objective of the programme is to strengthen the social framework. He said that the BJP is engaged both in politics and social service. The media in charge Manvir Chauhan, state spokesperson Ravindra Jugran and Aditya Chauhan were present on the occasion.
