Shift without delay to accommodations made by administration: Sandhu

Chief secretary Sukhbir Singh Sandhu has appealed to residents of Joshimath to shift without delay to secure accommodations arranged by the Chamoli district administration. He said that those in homes which have developed cracks and are not considered safe should not take any risk. The chief secretary said this while visiting Joshimath on Sunday. The director general of police Ashok Kumar and secretary to chief minister, R Meenakshi Sundaram were also present with him.

Sandhu said that a team of the nation’s expert scientists is ascertaining the reasons for the land subsidence in Joshimath. After the reasons are known, the necessary treatment will also be undertaken to tackle the problem. He said that at present the safety of the citizens is very important and that the district administration is working consistently to ensure this. He appealed to the local residents to not take any risk under any circumstances. Stating that major damage can occur at any time in such a situation, he asked the residents to shift without delay to arrangements made by the authorities in secure locations. The chief secretary also inspected the situation in the worst affected Manoharbagh, Sinhdwar and other locations. The Chamoli district magistrate Himanshu Khurana informed Sandhu about the situation on the ground.
