Three peddlers arrested with smack and charas

The Pauri district police arrested three drug peddlers and recovered 10.7 grammes of smack and 500 grammes of charas from them during a checking drive in Kotdwar. The cost of the recovered drugs is estimated to be about Rs two lakh in total. The police registered cases against all the three-drug smugglers identified as Gulzar, Naresh Negi and Satish Rawat under different sections of NDPS Act. The police arrested the accused from different locations. Before these arrests, the Kotdwar police had arrested Muzammil with 4.10 grammes of smack on January 4 while the Anti Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) had arrested Vishal Thapa with 18.03 grammes of smack on December 30 last year. The police have arrested five men and recovered 32.83 grammes of smack and 500 grams of charas in a period of about10 days.

According to the police, Mominnagar Kotdwar resident Gulzar (23) was arrested near Gullar bridge by the police with 10.7 grammes of smack.While Naresh Negi (35) was arrested with 200 grammes of charas, Satish Rawat (30) was arrested with 300 grammes of charas.The accused told the police that they bought the contraband from Rampur, Bareilly in Uttar Pradesh and from Kapkot in Almora at cheap rates and sold it to youths in Kotdwar at higher rates. It will be recalled that on the directions of the State government to make Uttarakhand drugs-free by 2025, the Pauri district senior superintendent of police Shweta Choubey has also directed the police and ANTF to step up action against drugs smuggling.
